data input 150x150 Taxman toughens up and flexes musclesHMRC published a Business Records Check consultation in December 2010 stating that it will be targeting small businesses who keep poor records. The worst offenders will face fines up to £3,000.

HMRC uses a business’ records to check that revenue and expenses reported on tax returns are accurate and that the correct amount of tax has been paid, so it’s of the utmost importance that businesses get this right.

On top of the inconvenience of having a tax investigation it can also lead the increased cost of fines and penalties levied by HMRC plus the cost of your accountant in dealing with the investigation which can be anything from £1,500 upwards!

The surest way to ensure you are not caught by this new attack by HMRC is to ensure that you keep adequate records. We can help you with this by either showing you how to keep your accounts in order through to dealing with your bookkepping on an ongoing basis for you.
